Sherrie S. Aitken, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

An Interview with the President

Dr. Sherrie S. Aitken is a recognized leader in the government contract industry. Since starting CSR more than 30 years ago, she has gained the respect of peers and clients for her extensive work in the government policy arena and for her successful coordination of contracts in the health and human services, education, and many related fields. She has managed projects covering a wide range of topics, including child and youth development, family support, alcohol and drug abuse, education issues, legal issues, and the needs of the aging population.

Dr. Aitken helped to foster many of the methodological innovations that have emerged through CSR’s contract work, including methods for evaluating multisite, community-based projects; quasi-experimental studies that respond to community concerns about human research; and methods that integrate qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis procedures.

Today, Dr. Aitken remains an active member of the CSR Executive Staff, and her philosophy of business continues to govern every aspect of CSR’s operations. She believes in hard work, integrity, and accountability—simple principles that can be hard to find in today’s corporate environment.

She also is actively pursuing original research, specializing in designing policy research, process and outcome evaluations, cost analyses, program monitoring, performance measurement, and epidemiologic research. Dr. Aitken frequently is asked to provide training and technical assistance to agency staff and grantees on topics such as developing pragmatic program evaluation designs, developing instrumentation to measure program and initiative processes and outcomes, and analyzing data to support sound decisions. She also maintains a busy lecture schedule, often briefing high-level government officials and decisionmakers.

Dr. Aitken received a Ph.D. in public administration from the School of Government and Business Administration at George Washington University, an M.P.A. in public administration from American University, and a B.A. in social studies from St. Joseph College.
