Hsiao-ye Yi

Dr. Yi is an experienced epidemiologist who relies on a decade of experience in social science and health-related research, combined with an extensive background in statistics and quantitative research methods, to manage research programs on vital public health topics. Dr.Yi directs CSR’s Alcohol Epidemiologic Data System (AEDS) project for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, one of the largest and most long-standing health surveillance systems tracking alcohol-related mortality and morbidity in the United States. Dr. Yi directs studies on the relationships between drinking and health conditions, alcohol consumption among special populations, and determinants of drinking-and-driving behavior. She leads staff conducting analyses of large data sets from national surveys using sophisticated statistical procedures and research designs, resulting in significant contributions to the body of health research knowledge for policymaking. Dr. Yi is skilled in statistical software packages such as SAS, SUDAAN, SPSS, and Hierarchical Linear and Non-Linear Modeling Language. She consults on survey methodology and statistical issues as needed by CSR staff, such as for the Illicit Drug Data Inventory for the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Dr. Yi holds a doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Maryland, a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Maryland, and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Harbin Engineering Institute, Harbin, China.
