Virginia Needs Assessment (VANA)
The challenge: CSR was asked by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services to assist state representatives in utilizing data gathered through a CSR-provided prevention needs assessment family of studies, and enable them to work with local prevention program planners throughout the Commonwealth to plan appropriate alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs prevention programs for youth.
CSR’s approach: CSR produced a Web site that integrates Virginia’s needs assessment data and assists local officials in using these data to plan their youth programs. The site allows policy makers to compare the Commonwealth’s risk and protective factors data to other jurisdictions, compare one county to others, and compare Virginia data to the Nation as a whole.
